A meditation on forgiveness.
Commissioned by the Museum of Broken Relationships in London, Careful was a performance installation interrogating memories of love, loss and forgiveness. The one-to-one experience unfolded as follows: You enter a warm, comfortable room. The walls are covered with stories and memorabilia from previous participants. Inside this room is a single performer. You sit down and are gently asked, “If there were one person you wish would ask your forgiveness, who would that be?” Once answered, you are invited to remove your shoes and have your feet very carefully washed and dried. You are then invited to record a reflection of your experiences of love, loss and forgiveness in your own time, and allowed opportunity to read the walls as well. Careful queries the roles of audience, performer and museum curator by subverting the flow of information of the museum in which it was situated.
